The Devon & Somerset Fire & Rescue Service Ceremonial Unit has been serving the people of Devon, and more recently Somerset, for over 30 years and comprises three groups of members who are not only serving and retired firefighters and support staff, but also people from the wider communities of these counties.
As the Concert Band, we form the First Section of the Ceremonial Unit. Under the direction of former Royal Marines Bandsman Martin Andrew since July 2015 the band has rapidly gained a reputation as one of the best concert bands in the area.
The band currently has over 40 members and is made up of former professional musicians and keen amateurs. We play a varied repertoire including military marches, classical pieces, pop and ragtime numbers, big band classics, and medleys from films and musicals, as well as some contemporary music.
We perform both as the full windband and as smaller ensembles of woodwind and / or brass players, and are currently forming a marching section to perform alongside the Corps of Drums.
We play at a variety of venues across Devon and Somerset at both formal and informal events throughout the year for a diverse range of charities and organisations, including the Fire Service.

Corps of Drums / Colour Party
The Second Section is a ceremonial marching band consisting of approximately ten side drummers / buglers, plus one bass and four tenor drummers. Under the direction of Drum Major Ian Washburn BEM (ex Grenadier Guards) and Drum Major Dave Morley (ex Royal Marines) the Corps perform military style drumming routines at various concerts and parades locally and nationally, and for 30 years has led a 60-strong combined band in Ypres, Belgium playing under the Menin Gate for the internationally attended annual Remembrance Day Parades in November.
The Colour Party form the Third Section of the Ceremonial Unit and carry the Ceremonial Flags for official engagements and events to support The Corps and The Concert Band.
